Two service providers, Etisalat and you, can only exist, but there are plenty of possibilities when choosing a cell phone plan.
All depends on you: prepayment/post payment, tourism or residence, local minutes or international minutes, little or lots of information, contracts or contracts, telephone and telephone services.
Prices are close for Etisalat and du services, but the Virgin Mobile UAE service brand operated by the parent company Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company and Etisalat’s branded product swyp offer further choice.
This is our guide to the agreements and policies to be implemented to ensure the right choices are made.
According to the November 2018 figures from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, there are 19.3 million active smartphone subscribers in the UAE. The rate of penetration per 100 inhabitants is 218.8 smartphone subscriptions. In 2011, the subscriptions were 11 million and the penetration rate was 198.5.
Etisalat is the UAE’s oldest and largest operator, established in 1976 as part of the Emirates Telecommunications Group. In 2007, you started. According to TRA info, both have comparable network coverage and quality.
Etisalat has a broadband subscription of 10.73 million (58%) while at the end of 2018 it has 789 million (42%). These figures include Virgin Mobile and swyp, which began in September 2017. Although these providers do not divulge their numbers individually, the app has been downloaded over a million times by a Virgin mobile UAE plans system.
While swyp and Virgin Mobile often use the existing Etisalat and du postpaid plans with mobile, they don’t have different operating licenses, so the operators are considered mobile virtual network operators. Swyp is essentially a packaged kit, while Virgin Mobile is a Virgin Group licensed brand.
The overwhelming majority (15,9 million of 19,3 million registered smartphone subscriptions in the UAE) are prepayment rather than a postpaid, as you are received by bill at the end of the month, for the bill is paid in advance.
“At a time when providers sell a phone with bundles to bring customers into the postpaid plan, prepay is dominant, unlike Western Europe and North America,” Reed says. “[UAE] providers are looking to raise the numbers of post-paid clients today, since they are more expensive and contractual, which means that you do not have to leave to hire them.”
There are also exclusive codes for first-time buyers that offer discounts (for example, WEB79 currently gives Dh79 off). You will retain your current number for customers who want to change from Etisalat or you.
